Information for speakers

Hello! We’re thrilled to team up with you for the Innovation in Interpreting Summit from March 7-9, 2023!

The last two editions drew about 5000 participants each, and we’re excited to have you on board for this year’s summit.

In this document, you’ll find a range of resources to make your job as a speaker as easy as possible.

We’ve also tried to answer any questions you might have. Anything still unclear? Feel free to drop us an email at hello@innovationininterpreting.com.

What is the Innovation in Interpreting Summit?

For the past few years, the interpreting community has been living through a time of incredible change. New technologies are sweeping in at a fast and furious pace, and the growth in remote interpreting has left many colleagues searching for answers.

In the meantime, colleagues are also looking to their peers for support and taking advantage of this period to learn new skills.

We’ve invited over 20 leading interpreting experts to share their knowledge and expertise with our community, helping us overcome the challenges of this new world of work.

Here’s where you come in. We’ve asked you to speak at this summit because your expertise will help the community better understand how to harness innovation to take their interpreting to the next level.

Thank you so much for being here to educate, support, and inspire.

How will the summit work?

The Innovation in Interpreting Summit will run from March 7-9, 2023 and will include presentations, spotlight sessions, networking opportunities, giveaways, and more.

Presentations

Every summit day will include 5-6 pre-recorded presentations.

We’d like each presentation to be short (15-20 minutes) - so people can fit them in around other commitments, including interpreting assignments - and actionable - so participants walk away with at least one concrete step they can take immediately after the presentation.

With that goal in mind, we’ll subtitle all of the presentations and create accompanying resources that will be available as part of the Power Pack.

Spotlight Sessions

Each day will also include a spotlight session with one or more experts.

These pre-recorded sessions will lead to in-depth, interactive discussions on some of the most cutting-edge topics in translation.

Community

In our summit community, participants can network, motivate each other, and get answers to any other questions they may have.

We’ll also bring non-traditional approaches to encourage participants to share their own innovative ideas and grow together.

What we’ll need from you

Our goal is to make everything as easy as possible so this is a great learning opportunity for our community.

We’ll need some very basic information from you for our registration page and speakers page: your name, title, short bio (100-150 words) and a square photo.

Please submit this information using this form by January 15, 2023.

Your presentation

Your presentation will be pre-recorded. It should be short, friendly and approachable. Please structure your content in a way that allows attendees to walk away feeling like they've really learned something. You’ll find lots of tips in our How to give online presentations that don’t suck webinar, audio and video for interpreters webinar, and in this blog post on the right sound and the right look.

What should your presentation be like?

Your presentation should last 15-20 minutes. Slides are optional.

This summit is all about taking action. Please prepare an accompanying worksheet that helps participants implement what you’ve shared.

You’ll find templates for slides and worksheets in the Resources section below.

Please submit your presentation, slides and worksheet using this link by February 6, 2023. Please respect this deadline to give us enough time to get everything ready.

Your presentation should include relevant, actionable content. Here’s the suggested format:

  • A short introduction

  • An overview of your topic and why it’s relevant

  • Your teaching, ideally presented in three to five key ideas

  • Specific action steps

  • Pitch (optional)

What should I pitch? (optional)

Optionally, take a minute or two at the end of your presentation to share a relevant and useful free product with attendees or tell them a little about your Power Pack contribution.

What you’ll get from us

In appreciation of your time and effort, we will pay each speaker an honorarium of 200 USD.

In addition, all speakers are invited to join the affiliate program, where you can earn additional income by referring participants who purchase the Power Pack.

The summit also offers an opportunity to expand your network. Last year, we had over 4000 registrants!

All speakers will also get free access to the Power Pack, which includes summit replays and bonuses!

How we will support you

We’re just an email away. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at any time.

We’ve also set up a group for speakers in our summit community. We’ll share tips, ideas, and updates and field questions here, too. Please join using this link. (You may need to create an account on the techforword platform first.)

We’ll hold a networking session so speakers can get to know each other at 6:00 PM CET / 12:00 EST on Monday, February 20, 2023. Drop by to get to know each other, have some fun, and get answers to any questions you may have. Use this link to join us!

Resource vault

To make your life as easy as possible, we’ll provide the following resources:

You will find the following resources to this convenient folder. 😁

How to record your presentation

Below are a few great options. Don’t forget to turn on your webcam so you can really connect with your audience. Once the recording is done, just share it with us and we’ll take care of the rest.

  1. Record right inside PowerPoint. When you’re done preparing your slides, just enter recording mode, make sure the webcam is active, and get started.

  2. Record using your Zoom account (the free tier works, too). Create a slide deck (using PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, etc.) and then start a Zoom meeting with yourself to deliver your talk. Make sure to choose “Cloud Recording”. The final recording will be available online in your Zoom account.

Power Pack Contribution (optional)

If you’re willing to provide a special gift or an individual coaching session, please get in touch so we can discuss offering these as a prize for our daily giveaways.

If you contribute a premium resource to the Power Pack (in other words, something you're not giving away for free somewhere else), you will get a 50% affiliate commission on sales, rather than 40%.

Adding one of your products in the Power Pack is a great way for you to promote your participation in the Summit. When your audience sees your product, they’ll know it’s a worthwhile investment - and the commission you’ll make on helping us sell the Power Pack will more than make up for your time and effort.

Need some help coming up for an idea for what you can add to the Power Pack? Drop us a line at hello@innovationininterpreting.com.

If you’d like to contribute to the Power Pack, please let us know by January 31, 2023.

Your actual contribution is due on February 13, 2023. Please submit it using this link.

The Power Pack provides an even better summit experience, with early and unlimited access to every presentation, including worksheets, slides and other material, a private podcast of every session for on-the-go listening, access to six live networking sessions, two co-working sessions, a live “Ask the experts” session and entry in daily giveaways.

To make the Power Pack even more valuable, we’d like to ask speakers if they’d be willing to provide additional resources. This includes things like:

  • E-books

  • Workbooks

  • Mini-guides

  • Mini-courses

  • A live workshop

  • Replay of a live workshop you’ve already given

  • 1 month in your membership program (if applicable)

Live participation

When the event week rolls around, we’ll already have done the work of creating the presentations and extra resources. We’ll mostly be able to enjoy the experience and learn!

We know you’re all busy people. If your schedule permits, we invite you to attend other presentations and share your expertise and ideas.

We’d also be delighted if you could pop into the community on the day of your presentation to answer written questions from participants.

Questions will come in over the course of the day, so you can answer them at the time that’s best for you!

Promotion

Leading up to the summit, we’ll have two weeks of promotion. We’ll share social media graphics to make it all easy for you!

We encourage all of our speakers to share on social media, mailing lists or other channels (if applicable) during the promotion period, from February 20-March 6.

Make sure to include your affiliate link so you can get in on the 40% commission that will come from any Power Pack sales (50% if you've contributed a premium bonus). We’ll create your affiliate link and send it to you before the promotion period starts.

 Pricing and affiliate details

We’re confident that our summit will be a great way to share your knowledge, boost your visibility and make new connections. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into it! That’s why we’ve set up an affiliate program for the Power Pack where you’ll receive a commission from all sales generated by people you refer. Payouts will be made 30 days after purchase on a rolling basis.

The commission structure is as follows:

  • 40% for all speakers

  • 50% for all speakers who include a premium bonus

The pricing structure will be:

  • 69€ during the first 20 minutes after initial registration

  • 99€ until the summit starts on March 7

  • 149€ until March 15

We will also offer the possibility to pay in two installments or request financial aid.

As with all affiliate promotions, be sure to disclose that you’re an affiliate when sharing with your audience.

Right now, all we’re asking from you is to fill in the basic information form to let us know you’re in.

If you’re in, we’d love for you to join our dedicated online group for speakers. (You may have to set up an account on our learning platform first.)
